WOMEN WRITE ABOUT COMICS
In-depth analysis of "B-200" - the first installment of Non Partum at Mutha Magazine
"...voyeuristic but lovely; powerful. ...It’s all in the pacing.."
THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE
My online series at Mutha Magazine, Non Partum is an e-reading pick in the Chicago Tribune's literary supplement!
"Masilamani excels at drawing herself — mastering the nuances of her own body language. Her ease with the difficult subject matter, paired with her expressive ink-and-marker drawings, tell a gripping story of medical uncertainty and the power behind coming to terms with the things you want."
THE COMICS JOURNAL
A thoughtful and well-observed review for the excellent Dog City #2 anthology - which contains my minicomic, Selfies - from venerable comics reviewer, Rob Clough.

"Her verisimilitude and restraint regarding the way teens act is remarkable, and she quickly manages to create a youth-dominated world in the way that the Hernandez Brothers might."
COMICS SHOULD BE GOOD
Nice to read a reaction to Las Cuerpas from someone who managed to pick it up from me without hearing a speech about femicide. I've been wanting to hear someone's response to it without me providing context. I'm glad that it makes sense without language.

"...Masilamani creates suspense, inevitability and even beauty in such a small space."
The Graphic Novel Classroom: POWerful Teaching and Learning with Images
Better than a review: Maureen Bakis writes about using my comic "Two Kinds of People" to get high school students talking about race and ethnicity. I wish everyone had to write an essay after reading my comics!
Comics Reporter
A review from one of my favorite comics sites.
"An out-of-nowhere and extremely pleasant surprise, Masilamani's comics are worth checking out right now for dedicated fans of the form..."

"The best of these stories all involve a woman's quiet moments alone or with others, revealing complex emotions with subtly and efficiency. Twice I found myself feeling like I had experienced another person's life. Twice! "
